Imagine someone owning a LinkedIn page in your company’s name and diverting visitors to a fake site with misleading information. This no less than a nightmare and it can completely ruin your hard-earned reputation!
SURPRISING THIS IS GETTING VERY COMMON!
Undoubtedly, LinkedIn is the largest professional network today and the most ideal platform to connect with businesses, professionals, and job seekers. An official LinkedIn page has become a necessity for companies to connect with their target audience groups and build a great referral traffic source for their website. I am sure you don’t want someone to own your company’s LinkedIn page.
We recently faced the challenge of a fake ID with one of our clients. Their company’s LinkedIn page was stolen by an unknown user, and the page was diverting traffic to a fake business site set up under the client’s brand name. When we tracked and reported the user, he asked for a high compensation to release the page. The process to get the page released was tedious and long, and the cost to the business was huge.
One of the most common ways to perform large-scale data harvesting attacks is by using fake profiles. A malicious user can set up a company page (even though he is not an employee or an owner) under a fake profile. His main motive is to hold the company for ransom. And sadly, LinkedIn is not immune to these kinds of attacks.
