While LinkedIn is a business platform, no one enjoys a dry sales pitch. Creating engaging content can be a challenge. Let’s discuss some pointers to help you craft posts that stand out. These tips can work for your personal profile and company page.
If you’re unsure about any of them, reflect on your LinkedIn experience: What types of posts capture your attention? Dive in to discover how to make your content irresistible!
Things to do when posting:
- Highlight your team: Promote your company culture, mission, and vision. It’s a great way to give insight into who you are as an organization and an excellent way to build your brand online.
- Discuss industry insights: If you spot something on your newsfeed related to your work, take the initiative to read, thoughtfully comment, and share if it hits home.
- Inform rather than sell: It’s better to avoid promoting your products and services directly on LinkedIn. It gets boring and appears like a sales pitch. But DO share new releases, helpful tips, or exciting product or service changes.
- Share your expertise: If you can answer someone’s question or address a problem, that’s great content and a good way to show your strength on that topic.
- Show your well-roundedness: I love posts that show more personality beyond your job! Others want to know if you support a shelter, compete in an adventure sport, or participate in a hobby or organization you are passionate about! Sharing that with your network reflects your personality so others feel more connected and inspired.
- Feature accomplishments: Post company highlights, team member achievements, and breakthroughs. These make great pieces of content for building your business profile.
- Mention partnerships: Highlight selections, collaborations, event highlights, and more. Be sure to take the opportunity to increase the reach by tagging your peers and colleagues who are up for it.
- Get personal: Consider posting any moment that has been personally defining in your life (this is very occasionally) and that strikes an emotional chord in a good way.
- Talk about events: If you attend networking and community events talk about it before, during, and after to grab the attention of your network. People want to know how you engage and might be looking for more ways to do the same.
And some to Avoid – While there isn’t a big list of don’ts for content creation beyond general social media writing etiquette, there are a few:
- Do not post, share, or comment on political topics. The LinkedIn platform is not meant for political debates.
- Steer clear from harsh language or unrecognizable words. Keep it simple and respectful so that people will be open to the message and can read and retain it easily.
- Avoid negative comments and criticism. It’s okay to disagree, but don’t pick a fight on LinkedIn.
- Don’t send message requests that look like spam. For example, I see you have an interest in…
As you begin this process, keep in mind that your first few LinkedIn posts might take some time and won’t be perfect, but don’t let that hold you back. Brainstorm, experiment, and learn from the process. As you build your LinkedIn presence, you’ll discover what works best and gain a clearer direction for moving forward. Good luck, and feel free to reach out with any questions!
